Revue 2023

The charity show was due to take place in March 2023 but a fire in the neighbouring building meant that Loughborough Town Hall had to close for a few weeks cancelling many shows at this great venue. Everyone at KSTD was devastated, unsure at the time if all the hard work would be wasted.

However, on 1st/2nd July 2023 Revue finally went ahead at Loughborough Town Hall and was a huge success, raising £3357 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The show explored many fictitious news reports with pirates capturing fishermen, a storm destroying wildlife and gardens as well as many other features of a newspaper such as horoscopes, dear diary, cars and jewellery for sale, sport, gardening, cinema, and theatre reviews, all depicted via all aspects of performing arts, with fantastic costumes, lighting effects, choreography and narrative via videography.

The feedback from the show has been outstanding, with many members inspired to take up new genres as well as enquiries from new students to the dance school. Owner of KSTD, Ann Marchant, said ‘KSTD has done it again! We knew we had to do everything possible to allow the students to perform something they had all worked so hard on. Seeing them all happy and performing so brilliantly and confidently on stage is what makes it all worthwhile’.

Kirsty Callender, Ann’s daughter and manager of KSTD and producer of Revue said ‘we were all ridiculously proud of all the KSTD students for their amazing performances’. She went on to say putting on a show of this size requires a huge team effort, not only in planning and preparation, but the actual weekend itself.

It is evident from our shows the strong connection everyone has and the family feel to the school, which transfers to the stage. You can see how supportive the dancers are with each other. These connections are so important off and on stage. KSTD is a true team with shared passion and commitment.

Kirsty, Ann and the teaching team plan to continue to focus on the IDTA examinations in this academic year and consider the next performance opportunities they can organise for their students. KSTD will be celebrating 50 years anniversary in 2026. Kirsty says that will take some organising but for now they are enjoying the photographs (Michelle McCoy Photography) and the video (Dance Show Filming) of the show, seeing that the hard work of the KSTD team was a huge success. These make great presents for family and are a great way of looking back on the show in years to come. It is also excellent for the performers to see themselves!
